Arleda S. Jakopson Serenity Garden
Under construction now, the Serenity Garden has been designed to provide a secure setting that will offer the elderly and Alzheimer’s/dementia residents a therapeutic, peaceful area in which to experience the outdoors and enjoy fresh air and sunshine.

The garden will offer unique opportunities for a wide range of stimulating, life-enriching, therapeutically designed activities focusing on nature as a complement to the medical and social programs offered to residents, their families and friends. The garden will be a first of its kind in our area, and may serve as a model for similar nursing facilities to replicate.

Located adjacent to the new building, the “Serenity Garden” will be a place of peace and beauty, filled with trees, flowers, a butterfly garden, raised garden beds, a gazebo and much more. Studies at similar specialized outdoor areas in other parts of the country have shown immense benefits to the elderly and Alzheimer’s patients. Caregivers in those facilities report a high percentage of positive impact on mental and physical health and the overall quality of life.

Many generous organizations and individuals have made contributions for construction of the Serenity Garden, which will be completed in Spring 2008. We still welcome contributions from all interested. Consider a naming opportunity for your family, or a memorial for a lost loved one. These opportunities exist for several garden components including:

The Butterfly Garden (minimum gift of $5,000)
The Pond/Waterfall (minimum gift of $10,000)
The Gazebo (minimum gift of $10,000)
